The Team

Suzi McBride & Jean Olivieri

We met as baby engineers back in the mid‑90s, building the original Iridium system at Motorola. We were told we needed to figure out how to build a satellite a week — and as two engineers who loved solving hard problems, we connected instantly. Neither of us could have predicted the careers or lives that would come from that starting point. But we’ve been in each other’s lives ever since — encouraging each other through job changes, relationships, acting as sounding boards, helping each other make connections, and sharing more than a few great glasses of wine along the way. It’s wild to think it’s been over 35 years… because we definitely don’t feel that old!

Some of my most memorable moments have happened behind the wheel—from the grit of a top-10 finish in the 24 Hours of Lemons to the elegance of driving a Rolls Royce Spectre along Highway 1 during the '25 Monterey Car Week. I’ve enjoyed electrifying a 1966 Fiat 500 but nothing compared to just tearing through Modena in a pair of red Ferraris.

Occupation
I’m the COO at Iridium – The only network with true global coverage. Iridium is a satellite and ground network designed for mission-essential communications. Governments, industries, and innovators worldwide (including the Rebelle Rally) rely on us to connect, protect, and perform—everywhere on Earth. To me, being a COO is about being the ultimate connector. I get to bring brilliant people together, turn big wild ideas into reality, clear the roadblocks, set the pace, and make sure the whole machine is operating as one.… and I absolutely love it.
Car Memory
I definitely have some memorable car moments — most of them courtesy of doing the Rebelle Rally four times. But my most unforgettable moment happened after we finished the 2025 rally. We took our husbands out to show them part of the final day’s route — nothing crazy, just part of the same route we’d driven the day before. We were less than a mile from the finish, cruising on a onelane path right next to the train tracks, when suddenly one of our tires went flat. Fast. We jumped out and discovered the problem: a train track spike had somehow gone straight through the inside of the wheel and punctured the tire. And of course, that’s the moment trains started coming from both directions. It turned into a mini rescue scene — us working in a tight little strip of trail, trains blasting by, and thankfully another offroader who came upon us and jumped in to help. With everyone pitching in, we got the spare on and got ourselves safely back to camp and now I have a souvenir wheel to remember the 2025 Rebelle.

Dream Car
I’ve been lucky enough to own a few dream cars over the years (911, Panamera Turbo, VW Bug), but one moment really changed how I think about them. I was shopping for a used car when I spotted a Porsche 911 Targa — total bucketlist car — so I asked if I could just take a look. The salesperson told me the previous owner sold it because they’d gotten older and it had become too hard to get in and out of. And that hit me. Right then I decided: no more waiting for ‘someday.’ I was fortunate enough to afford the 911, so why was I holding back? I bought it, made it my daily driver, and never looked back. That car wasn’t just a dream — it was a reminder to live the dream now, not later. My most recent dream car is my Aston Martin DB11, which I’ve proudly owned since 2021.
Objectives
Still trying to figure that out as not exactly sure what we got ourselves into exactly.....Jean and I are both competitive so we will want to leave it all out on the course and do our best.

Occupation
I’ve officially retired from the San Francisco bay area tech and aerospace to embrace a new role in Sonoma: mastering the art of balance. After years of a career as a COO, building companies and introducing new products, equilibrium was an afterthought, I’m now focused on a trifecta of philanthropic work, social connection, and competitive fitness. It’s a transition that requires patience and practice, but it’s very meaningful to me to be more focused, deeply connected and far more fulfilled.

Dream Car
My heart remains with a singular classic: my 1997 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo. I’ve owned my dream car since 2007, and it remains a permanent fixture in my stable. It’s the final iteration of the air-cooled engine, and I simply can’t let it go. It serves as my constant—a reminder of why I love the drive—even as I explore the cutting edge of new technology and weekend rallies.
