The Team

Carey Lando & Andrea Shaffer

We first met at the 2021 Rebelle Rally and have been teaming up for the past two years. Along the way, we found a strong rhythm built on trust, communication, a shared approach, and we're fortunate to come away with wins both years.

We come at rally from different paths. Carey jumped back in later in life and turned it into a passion and business, while Andrea is an Original Rebelle with years of experience and a calm, steady approach to navigation. That mix is what makes this team work.

We’re both drawn to the challenge, the learning, and the chance to keep pushing ourselves. Trinite is something new for us, and we’re excited to figure it out together and see where it takes us.

I’m someone who likes to figure things out and has learned to get more comfortable being uncomfortable along the way. I care a lot about helping others build confidence and realize they’re capable of more than they think.

Occupation
I run MtnSubi Consulting & Adventures, where I lead off-road education, trail runs, and brand projects focused on AWD vehicles. After 29 years as a planner and project manager in public service, I found my passion and decided to go all in on this. For me, it’s really about helping people feel more confident getting out there, learning as they go, and realizing their vehicle (and they) can do more than they think.
Car Memory
One of the most memorable experiences for me was building my first car with my dad—a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. It started as a rolling shell, and over the course of a summer I learned how to bring it back to life. I wet sanded the paint, installed the interior, fit the windows and bumpers, built and dropped in the engine, and learned how to maintain it myself. That car taught me a lot: patience, problem-solving, and how things actually work. Even though it was many years between it and me working on MtnSubi, it’s a big part of why I’m so hands-on today. I still miss it, and if I’m being honest, I regret selling it.
Self Described As
I’m someone who likes to figure things out and has learned to get more comfortable being uncomfortable along the way. I care a lot about helping others build confidence and realize they’re capable of more than they think.
Fun Fact
I didn’t grow up off-roading at all. I found it later in life and just went all in. Turns out I really like doing hard things on purpose.
Dream Car
I don’t think I could ever choose just one. My dream car is really anything that gets me out there and back without hesitation. I’ve always been drawn to vehicles that are capable, reliable, and a little bit scrappy. If it can take me deep into the backcountry, handle whatever comes up, and bring me home with a good story, that’s it for me.
Objectives
My objectives are pretty simple: be a good teammate first, help others when we can, and then be competitive. That order matters to me. Even though Trinite is a rally, it’s a different format than what we’re used to with the Rebelle. Having a phone and digital maps will be a whole new experience for most of us, and I’m looking forward to us figuring that out and seeing what the organizers have in store.
Greatest Adventure
Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one. Becoming a mom, starting over and building a new chapter of life, and taking the leap to turn my passion into a business have all been some of my biggest adventures so far. It kind of feels like I’m right in the middle of the next one.

Objectives
First and foremost, to be the best teammate I can be. After that, I want to help others. The competitive part will come on its own!
Greatest Adventure

2026 Subaru TrailSeeker Limited

We’re driving the all-new TrailSeeker, Subaru’s newest EV AWD. It's known as the E-Outback in other markets, built on a platform that feels more aligned with the Outback. This is a familiar place for Carey since her first off-road build was a 2014 Outback. It’s a fully electric vehicle with impressive 0-60 numbers, and we’re running it completely stock. We're looking forward to spending time with this new platform and enjoying how smooth and responsive it is on-road with the EV system.
