Barlow / Lacey

Clarkdale AZ & Colorado

The Team

Nena Barlow & Sara Lacey

I wanted to do the rally in a Pacifica and Chrysler said they would give me one if I teamed up with someone from Girls' Guide to Cars. I said yes, then was pleasantly surprised to find out that someone would be Sara Lacey, whom has been to the Rebelle and with whom I hung out with at the Jeep Recon unveil and geeked out together over LL Cool J.

Sara Lacey

I am a big question-asker, I want to know more about the things I learn and the people I meet. My least favorite attribute is that it's been hard for me to learn to speak up for myself (still working on it), and that I'm a picky eater.

Occupation
4wd instructor and precision driver. I spend my life outside and driving.
Car Memory
Ha! So many. Carey Lando towing me across the finish line in 2023. Getting my dad's ranch truck stuck and spending hours getting it out so he wouldn't find out. Teaming up with an all-Jeep crew in 2021 to cross the finish line in first, second, third in the Rebelle. Taking my 2wd pickup over Engineer Pass in Colorado in the dark. So many...

Driven. ;)
Fun Fact
My typical work day often requires that I get undressed outside before coming in the house, and sometimes hosing off, too.
Dream Car
I am lucky to get to drive so many of them. But next I think I want a manual track car.
Objectives
I want to go after it. We don't even know what "it" is yet, but we will chase it, and have fun doing it.
Greatest Adventure
Driving across the country in 1.5 days, then getting into a different car to drive 1.5 days by myself up to San Francisco to start a rally I know very little about in, of all things, a minivan.

Occupation
I am an automotive journalist. It's been an incredible journey for the last 20 years. I have enjoyed representing a mother's and woman's perspective, and loved watching the business evolve to embrace it over the years. I'm also a mom to two kids who are in their early 20s, and a wife to an incredible man who encourages me every step of the way.
Car Memory
One of my earliest memories is riding in the backseat of my parent's Scout. My dad had two moonroofs installed, and they were removable. I can recall standing up on the backseat with my brother, our heads out the moonroof on a remote dirt road in the mountains. I know, horribly unsafe, but it's a wonderful memory.
Self Described As
I am a big question-asker, I want to know more about the things I learn and the people I meet. My least favorite attribute is that it's been hard for me to learn to speak up for myself (still working on it), and that I'm a picky eater.
Fun Fact
I once had lunch with Ethel Kennedy, the Dalai Lama, Lech Walęsa and Mikhail Gorbachev, and also Sean Penn. Okay, we were in the same ballroom and not the same table, but I'm counting it. It was for the Nobel Laureate Summit in 2012! And I can touch my tongue to my nose.
Dream Car
Right now it's the Mercedes-Benz G580, the electric G-Wagon. I would want to be fearless in it if I got one though, unafraid to drive it off-road.
Objectives
I want to learn more about rallying and perhaps learn if it's something I want to continue doing. I'm excited to meet the women I've watched compete in the Rebelle and experience something new together. Winning would be rad, especially with Nena Barlow at my side. I want to make her proud!
Greatest Adventure
I spent a summer in a work/study abroad program in Greece when I was in high school. I didn't know anyone going on the program until we met en route at JFK airport. It was really the launchpad for me to learn I could do big things on my own, and inspired me to be curious and rationally fearless.

2027 Chrysler Pacifica

My husband owns a 2023 Pacifica--it was his dream car--seriously! I was reluctant at first, but then saw how underrated these things are--spacious, comfy, amazing array of features like stowable seats and roof rack, very luxurious and pretty zippy. We are competing in the updated 2027 Pacifica.
